RM Racers: Weekly Update, Actions Needed

Please read this email in its entirety. There is information about progress so far, the schedule next week, and actions needed from you.

    Wrapping up Week 2

We continue to see great progress in all age groups. The warm weather is sure helping! This week kids were assigned to lanes grouping them by speed and ability. This really enabled the coaches to focus on specific skills for the varying experience levels within each age group.

    • The 6U group is getting so good and freestyle and backstroke. I can see the confidence grow in each swimmer with each practice.
    • The 7/8s got introduced to breaststroke and butterfly. Some of them are naturals! They did some diving (maybe some belly flopping) as well.
    • The 9/10s are starting to work on perfecting technique for breast and fly while grouping into what might become their relay teams.
    • Middle School and High School had some tough practices! They are swimming lots of laps to work on their endurance for the longer events. They worked on flip turns and I love seeing which stroke they pick for the “swimmer’s choice.” We have some amazing breast and butterfly-ers!

    Week 3 Schedule

We continue after school practice today and next Monday and Tuesday. There is NO PRACTICE on Wed May 26th. Thurs May 27th kicks off our morning schedule. You can check the schedule here. If your child is practicing with a group outside of their age now, they can remain with that age group or discuss moving up/down with Coach Zach. We will continue to release the 6U swimmers into the playground and all other groups at the top stairs.

ACTION NEEDED: Declare Swimmer Availability for Meets

In order to plan each meet we need to know who is swimming. Your response is required, even if your swimmers are not available for the meet.

Detailed instructions on how to declare can be found by clicking the Meets & Events tab on our website. Note: Swimmers must attend at least 2 meets in order to qualify for county.

Volunteers Needed: Rivermist HOA Memorial Day Party

The Racers plan and host one of the Rivermist HOA pool parties each year. This year we are in charge of the Memorial Day party on Sunday May 30th. We need 3-4 more volunteers. Email [email protected] to sign up or for more information.

    Meet Volunteer Sign-up is Coming

Natasha Mahdavi, our volunteer coordinator, is getting the meet volunteer needs set up on our team website. We expect to send that out by early next week for each family to sign-up.

Remember, we are a volunteer-run organization and depend on each family fulfilling their assignments to run the meets and to provide a great experience for your swimmers.

This year, given the number of families, swimmers, and meets we need each family to volunteer for one role for each meet your child swims, up to 4 meets.

We will be checking that each family signs up and fulfills their roles and will not open the deck to spectators until we have filled all volunteer needs for each meet and then only as capacity allows. Volunteering is the only sure way to see your swimmer up close.
